3 new cameras. 1 dope husband.

on my birthday i received a FUJI INSTAX mini cam + a canon rebel dslr.

i also shot with my newish SMENA COSMIC SYMBOL (35mm) camera for the first time this past week. so yeah, a pretty big ars week for yours truly. the fuji shot is the post below and i will be showing you some from the symbol + the canon, you know, just to share with my few little dudical readers.

as you may know, i am MUCH more comfortable shooting film shots, be it, 35mm or polaroids than i am digital. so the digital shots are for the most part taken by baktash, and not me. i have to find a way to love it. but i still prefer to shoot with my little cameras. isn't that strange but kinda cool?

my parents were here last weekend, and it was fantastic. we celebrated Ayyam'i'Ha together, which is a Baha'i Holy time of family togetherness, gift giving and all around awesomeness, we are all also meant to celebrate as we are preparing for our Fast for 19 days, which started today (more about that later. and by later i mean, like in the next day or so).

a shout out to my beautiful movie star grandparents.

i went back to minneapolis/st. paul last weekend and always go and visit with my grandparents. my grandmother knows how much i love photos and she pulled these out of a drawer. i FREAKED OUT. they are so amazing and i am so lucky to have been able to scan these STUNNING photographs! so here they are, my grandfather Robert, and my grandmother Patricia:

i love them so very, very much. aren't families amazing? and isn't being able to capture a moment in time with photography the best EVER? yes indeedy. i am so lucky to have so much time with my grandparents.

there is something about the prairies that make me feel like i am by the sea. i know, i am known to be desperate for the sea, but there is a real similar quality. especially in the spring, and summer, when the warm breeze blows the tall golden prairie grass for miles and miles all you can see is waves...its really so beautiful. i intend on capturing that on film one of these days for sure.

when i found this photograph, it resonated with me b/c of my affinity to the ocean and boats. i spent a lot of my formative years on the pacific, standing on the bow, closing my eyes and letting the cold breeze and misting raindrops refresh my face as the waves are gracefully gliding underneath...i miss those times so deeply and the joy it brought my soul. but i think someone was looking out for me when i moved to the prairies. if i close my eyes when i am standing in the field, without a doubt, the wind will pick up just as soon as i close my eyes, and i'll be transported to the ocean, to the smell of the air to the unbearable lightness of being. i think home is really, truly a place that we always keep with us in our heart and soul. i haven't lived at home (alaska/ pac NW) for about 4 years now, but i still miss it like i left yesterday. i don't think i'll feel ever so COMPLETE & WHOLE until i move back and the pacific air and the deep green wet forests are able to open my heart again.

when i close my eyes in the fields here i hear laughter, i hear pain & tears, i hear peace and calm, i hear my soul opening up, i feel vibrations that travel throughout, i feel home. i feel nothing and everything that means anything.

its almost february. its almost my 29th birthday. it was just yesterday that i was snuggling in my momma's arms! heh:
